Due to the large number of
games each week, several assignors share the assigning load:

The key to getting the type of
assignments you want is the NCSL/WAGS Profile sheet. If
you have not provided a Profile sheet yet, send us
the sheet you
received in the mail or download Profile
Sheer . You may email, mail or fax it to
us.
Be very clear on your
preferences, and remember that the more flexible you are, the better
mix of games we can come up with for you. There are three basic ways
for you to get assignments:
1. If you have a good
handle on your personal schedule and do not have to work around a
team, we can preassign you for the entire season or for as
much of it as you want.
2. If you are
associated with a team (player, coach, parent, sibling)
and cannot be assigned the team's games, "attach"
yourself to the team in Arbiter We will still have many good
games available, but understand that having to fit you around your
team's schedule may limit the type and number of games we can find
for you.
3. If your schedule is
uncertain and you'd like to work week to week, that's
fine. Call us each week-- and the earlier in the week you
call, the better choices you will have.
The great majority of you will
receive proposed assignments by email from
thearbiter.net. You MUST accept or decline the
assignments. (In some cases we will accept for you
based on telephone conversations.) Please
accept promptly--assignments are not official until
accepted. It is even more important for you to decline
promptly so we have time to fill the
assignment.
And please check your email
frequently during the season!
If you tell us you will be
available on a certain Sunday, we expect you to be available on that
Sunday. Please don't tell us you've taken other games -- this
is not fair to us or to the teams that are relying on having
referees for their games.
- We can't promise you Saturday games since
Saturdays are largely make-up dates, and games are added on a week
to week basis.
- We also understand that "life happens" and
that sometimes you have to give back games. The sooner you
notify us, the more likely we are to be able to find a replacement
for you. If you call us Friday or Saturday night and say you
can't do your games, those games may go
uncovered.
Referees must be 16 years old
to center NCSL and WAGS games. We assign younger referees
as ARs with veteran referees so they can get the necessary
experience to step into the center when it is time. While there
are some 14- or 15-year-olds who can do a credible job of centering
travel games, the great majority don't have the experience or
maturity to handle these more competitive
games. |
